MINUTES DARIEN POLICE COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
SEPTEMBER 16, 2009
1. CALL TO ORDER
The 2,191st meeting of the Darien Police Commission was held on the above mentioned date at Police Headquarters. Commissioner Johnson, Commissioner Truebner, Commissioner Harrel, Chief Lovello, Lt. Osborne, and Jan Lesko (Commission Secretary) were present. The meeting was called to order at 5:02 PM.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Truebner made a motion to approve, with one modification, the minutes of the meeting held on September 2, 2009, seconded by Commissioner Johnson. All were in favor. The time was 5:04 PM.
3. DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY
a. A press release was issued regarding the increase in burglaries from motor vehicles and steps residents can take to reduce the number of these burglaries.
b. The Commission was apprised of a serious motor vehicle accident which occurred at the intersection of Middlesex Road and Colony Road.
c. A ‘Code Red’ was sent out to residents within a one-mile radius of a motor vehicle accident on West Avenue on Sunday when it was determined that the motor vehicle was stolen and the driver fled the scene of the accident.
d. For the 2nd year in a row, the Department’s Traffic Division received the 1st Place award in the State’s Law Enforcement Challenge.
e. Sergeants Lawlor and Marron will begin a two-week training seminar for mid-level supervisors at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

5. OLD BUSINESS
Police Department Building
Chief Lovello advised that there are no new developments regarding the Police Department building project.
False Alarm Fund
The False Alarm Revenue report was reviewed by the Commission.
4. NEW BUSINESS
Traffic Issues
Chief Lovello advised that a new motor vehicle law will be implemented on October 1, 2009. Referred to as ‘Don’t Block The Box’, certain intersections will be marked in an effort to avoid gridlock and vehicles that are within ‘the box’ will be ticketed.
5. EXECUTIVE SESSION
A motion was made by Commissioner Johnson to enter Executive Session for discussion of personnel issues pertaining to the McCabe report, seconded by Commissioner Truebner. All were in favor. The time was 5:30 PM.
6. ADJOURNMENT
There being no other business to be considered, Commissioner Johnson motioned to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Harrel. All were in favor. The time was 6:36 PM.
