Darien Public Schools will be open on Thursday March 18, 2010
Schools will be operating on a regular schedule beginning tomorrow, March 18, 2010. Parents and teachers should be aware that there may be intermittent power interruptions during school hours, but that this will not constitute a safety hazard. Parents are strongly encouraged to escort children to and from bus stops, or attempt to carpool.
As utility crews continue their efforts to restore service to the town, power interruptions will occur. These scattered outages may occur in areas where power was recently restored or in neighborhoods that were not previously affected. While this is understandably frustrating, such interruptions are a necessary part of the process to fully restore electrical service to the town. During these times representatives from Connecticut Light and Power may be calling residences to determine if power has been restored. This is company protocol.
Residents are advised that multiple tree and power crews will be working throughout the night and associated noise should be expected. Connecticut Light and Power recommends that customers without power should ensure that electrical equipment and non-essential appliances are turned off or unplugged in anticipation of the power being turned back on.
The town transfer station will continue to remain open until 6:30pm. Residents should be aware that the dump is only accepting storm related debris during the extended hours. Regular household trash and non-storm related refuse should be brought to the transfer station during normal operating hours.
