Partnership Will Help Improve Neighborhood Safety and Communications with the Darien Police Department

Darien, CT. – The Darien Police Department announced today a partnership with Nextdoor (https://nextdoor.com/agency-detail/ct/darien/darien-police-department/), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications.

This integration with Nextdoor will enable the Darien Police Department to use Nextdoor to build stronger, safer communities with the help of Darien residents. The Police Department and Nextdoor neighborhoods will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch.

“We have always invested in innovative ways to increase safety for our residents,” said Lt. Jeremiah Marron. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and give them the ability to collaborate on virtual neighborhood watch efforts.”

Nextdoor has proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for Darien residents. More than 20 Darien neighborhoods are connected on Nextdoor.

With Nextdoor, Darien residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The Police Department will be able to post information, such as important news, services, programs, free events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor neighborhoods within the city.

Nextdoor is free for residents and the Police Department. Each Darien neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website and the Police Department will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.

The Darien Police Department joins over 2,500 public agencies across the country who are using Nextdoor to build stronger relationships with their residents.

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit nextdoor.com and enter their address. Agencies interested in connecting with residents on Nextdoor can visit nextdoor.com/agency.
