Arrests
Issued by: Lieutenant
Jeremiah P. Marron Jr.
For Immediate Release
Darien,
CT – Over the past few
weeks, the Darien Police Department Detective Division and Selective
Enforcement Unit developed information regarding illegal narcotics activity
involving numerous Darien High School students. Officers determined
specifically that two subjects were selling high potency liquid marijuana,
regular marijuana, and vape pens used to smoke the liquid marijuana to Darien
High School students. These transactions
were being facilitated through text messages and social media platforms such as
Instagram, Facebook, and Snap Chat. Officers
were able to identify the two subjects selling the narcotics as Kason Sumpter,
age 19, of 100 San Vincenzo Pl., #51 Norwalk, and Gregory Goldstein, age 19, of
3 Church St. Wilton.
Just after
midnight on January 13, 2018, an undercover officer made arrangements to meet
with Sumpter for the purposes of purchasing narcotics. Sumpter agreed to meet in the parking lot of
Holmes Elementary School located at 18 Hoyt St. and stated he would be in a black
SUV. Several officers including a K-9
Unit were positioned nearby to await Sumpter’s arrival.
At
approximately 12:25 am a black SUV entered the parking lot on the south side of
the school property. As the undercover
officer approached the vehicle, he immediately recognized the front seat
passenger as Sumpter. As the officer
reached the vehicle, he observed that Sumpter had a plastic package in his left
hand. The officer then reached to make
the transaction, however the operator of the vehicle, later identified as Goldstein,
began to drive off for an unknown reason.
At that point numerous officers moved in and were able to take both
subjects into custody without incident.
While
searching Sumpter, officers located 4.8 grams of marijuana in a plastic baggie. While searching Goldstein, officers located a small
quantity of marijuana in a plastic baggie in his front pocket. In the vehicle officers located a baggie
containing 13 more grams of marijuana, several vaping devices, and vape
cartridges containing THC oil.
Both
Goldstein and Sumpter were transported to headquarters where they were
fingerprinted, photographed, and processed for various narcotics charges. Sumpter was issued a $25,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on January 23, 2018. Goldstein was issued a $2,500.00 bond and is also
scheduled to appear in court on January 23, 2018. During this investigation there was never
any evidence that the previous narcotic transactions had taken place on
any school grounds in the Town of Darien.
The vehicle,
a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer belonging to Goldstein’s father, was towed from the
scene. Sumpter and Goldstein were
charged as follows:
