2023 Darien Citizen's Police Academy
The Darien Police Department is once again presenting an opportunity for community members to become acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of our agency and our officers. The Citizen’s Police Academy brings our agency and the community closer together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each participant. The Citizen's Police Academy will provide training sessions at Darien Police Headquarters on Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm starting February 2nd to March 16th.
Qualified residents or business owners will participate in 7 training sessions that will be approximately 2 hours long. They will learn about the many functions of law enforcement and the Darien Police Department. Participants will experience some of the highlights of police training and learn about the general operations of the Department. Presentations will include the basics of criminal law, search and seizure, patrol tactics, modified firearm training, crime scene processing, and an introduction to the department’s different specialized units. The Citizen’s Police Academy participants are offered an opportunity to network with Command Staff, patrol officers and training personnel and will be hosted in a safe, controlled, and professional training environment.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will have a greater understanding of how the Darien Police Department strives to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear, provide safe environments in our neighborhoods, and to maintain the high quality of life here in Darien. The proactive approach of this program is vital in maintaining our transparency to the community, and to provide greater insight into police practices and the services that the Darien Police Department provides. This program is not an accredited certification course to become a sworn police officer. View our Academy Brochure on our upcoming sessions.
