Re: Update: Attempted Burglary Five Mile River Road
________________________________________________________________________
UPDATE: 03.05.2026 1:30 p.m. - During a previously reported “burglary in progress” this morning on Five Mile River Rd., the suspects involved located a key hidden outside and gained entry to the residence and were confronted by the homeowner. Prior to the suspects entering the home, another family member called 9-1-1 when the suspects were observed rummaging on the front porch. The homeowner then observed that that at least one (1) of the three (3) masked suspects was armed with a handgun while they began unlawfully entering the front door to the residence.
At this point the homeowner feared for his safety and the safety of his family which included two small children. As the suspects began to make entry, the homeowner discharged his firearm at the suspects. The suspects then immediately fled the area.
During our initial investigation Darien Police Detectives determined that a male juvenile potentially matching the description of one of the suspects, arrived at the Bridgeport Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to surgery. The juvenile’s condition is reportedly stable at this time and Detectives continue to look into the individual’s possible involvement in the incident.
Working closely with other area police departments, the suspect vehicle used in this incident was determined to have been stolen from a residence in Fairfield prior to the incident in Darien. The vehicle has been located and has been seized as evidence by the Darien Police Department.
We would like to thank the Bridgeport and Fairfield Police Departments for their assistance in this investigation. No further details are being released at this time.
