At approximately 5:30am on May 4, 2016 the Darien Police Department was contacted by a resident of Intervale Rd. who reported that she had just observed two subjects burglarize her neighbor’s vehicle.

Several officers responded to the area. Officers Daniel Noto and Daniel Gorton located a subject matching the description given by the caller on nearby Devon Rd. That subject was determined to be involved in the burglary and was placed under arrest and taken into custody. The suspect then intentionally misdirected officers to prevent them from locating the second suspect.

A short time later Officer Michael Cummings observed a subject matching the description of the second suspect in the woods in nearby Woodland Park. The subject refused to comply with Officer Cummings’ commands. Officer Cummings then attempted to take the subject into custody however a struggle ensued. Officer Cummings was forced to deploy his taser enabling him to take the suspect into custody.

After taking both suspects into custody, they were found to be in possession of numerous check books, cell phones, chargers, wallets, sunglasses, a watch and loose change. All of the vehicles entered were determined to be unlocked.

Arrested was Karon McCollum DOB 05/31/97, of 20 Orchard Street Stamford, CT and a seventeen year old juvenile also from Stamford, CT. Both were charged with: 10 counts of Burglary 3rd degree, 10 counts of Conspiracy to Burglary 3rd degree, Larceny 3rd degree, Conspiracy to Larceny 3rd degree and Interfering with a Police Officer. The juvenile was also charged with Possession of Marijuana.

The Juvenile was issued a Juvenile Summons and released to a family member. McCollum was held on a combined one hundred and fifteen thousand dollar bond ($115,000.00).

A one hundred thousand dollar bond was placed on McCollum for the Darien charges, and a fifteen thousand dollar bond was placed on McCollum for a Failure to Appear Charge out of Stamford on an unrelated Robbery charge.
