Field Services Bureau

The mission of the Darien Police Department's Field Services Bureau is to prevent crime, minimize harm against persons and property, and increase community perceptions of safety. This is accomplished through proactive patrols, comprehensive and efficient investigations, holding criminal offenders to account, community awareness programs, and the fair and consistent enforcement of criminal and traffic laws.

The following Divisions and functions fall under the command of the Field Services Bureau Captain:

  • Patrol Division
  • Detective Division
  • Youth Division
  • Marine Division
  • Traffic Division
  • Accident Investigation Team
  • Emergency Response Team
  • Dive Team
  • K9 Unit

Captain Alison Hudyma took over command of the Field Services Bureau in April 2024, after commanding the Administrative Services Bureau for two years. Graduating from the Connecticut Police Academy in 2000, Captain Hudyma served for 11 years as a patrol officer where she was a Field Training Officer and Domestic Violence Liaison. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2011, then Lieutenant in 2019. Captain Hudyma has served the Department with distinction in both the Field Services Bureau and the Training Division, as both an officer and supervisor.

Captain Hudyma earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Wildlife Management from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science Advanced Investigation from the University of New Haven, and a Certificate in Victim’s Rights & Services from the University of New Haven. She currently is a board member for the Darien Domestic Abuse Council, a non-profit group raising awareness for Domestic Violence victims in Darien and also serves on the Lethality Assessment Program Advisory Committee for the State of Connecticut.

Captain Hudyma made history within the Darien Police Department: with her promotion to Lieutenant in 2019, she became the first female Lieutenant in the 97 year history of the Darien Police Department. Then, in 2022, she became the Department’s first female Captain and Division Commander.

Captain Hudyma is the Executive Officer of the Department, and assumes command of the Department in the unanticipated absence or incapacitation of the Chief of Police.
