Animal Control

The mission of the Darien Police Department’s Municipal Animal Control Officer (MACO) is to preserve the safety of persons and pets, prevent the spread of rabies in domestic animals, and enhance the quality of life in the Town of Darien. This is accomplished by investigation of complaints, recommendations and guidance for removal of sick, and injured wildlife and assistance with sick/injured domestic animals, as well as proactive efforts to gain compliance with Town of Darien ordinances, rules and regulations, and state laws.

The Municipal Animal Control Officer enforces state laws and town ordinances involving dog complaints, animal bites and wildlife-related incidents. 

Dog Licensing Facts:

  • Dog licenses are in effect July 1 through June 30.
  • All dogs over 6 months must be licensed.
  • Renewals go on sale beginning June 1 & must be procured by June 30 of each year.
  • Late charge is $1 for each month late.
  • A current rabies certificate must be presented to obtain a license.

Dog licenses can ONLY be obtained or renewed through the Town Clerk's Office at Darien Town Hall. Renewals can be completed annually through the mail during the month of June. A current rabies certificate is needed to obtain the license as well.

Dog licensing is mandated by the State of Connecticut, C.G.S. 22-349.
