Accident Investigation Team
The mission of the Darien Police Department's Accident Investigation Team is to assist the Field Services Bureau in the investigation of motor vehicle accidents involving a fatality or serious bodily injury. This is accomplished through team members undergoing continuing education in the field of accident reconstruction, their use of the specialized investigative tools and evidence-based investigative techniques.
The Darien Police Department's Accident Investigation Team is currently staffed by five police officers trained to various levels in motor vehicle accident investigation and reconstruction.
Team members receive extensive training in motor vehicle accident investigation, evidence collection and reconstruction and the team trains on a monthly basis. Team members utilize various articles of equipment including Total Station laser mapping equipment, drag sleds and cameras. The team is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is called out for accidents involving serious injury or fatality. The team commonly trains with other local agencies and has assisted in multi-jurisdictional accident investigations.
